Katrina Lenk is set to join the Broadway cast of the Tony-winning musical Once as Reza, taking over from temporary replacement Claire Wellen. Lenk will step into the violinist role (which earned a Tony nomination for original star Elizabeth A. Davis) on May 7.
Based on the acclaimed 2007 indie movie and featuring music by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, Once tells the enchanting story of a whirlwind romance between an Irish street musician and a Czech immigrant. The show opened on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on March 18, 2012, and went on to win eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Lenk last appeared on Broadway as Arachne in Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark; previously, she performed in the 2010 revival of The Miracle Worker and the 2012 presidential special Barack on Broadway. Her other New York stage credits include Last Dance at York Theatre and Camille at the Bard Summerscape.
The company of Once includes new leading stars Arthur Darvill and Joanna Christie, as well as David Abeles, David Patrick Kelly, Jillian Lebling, Eliza Holland Madore, Anne L. Nathan, Lucas Papaelias, Andy Taylor, Carlos Valdes, Erikka Walsh, Claire Wellin, Paul Whitty and J. Michael Zygo.
