The illicit love triangle continues! Murder Ballad, a new musical starring Caissie Levy, Will Swenson, Rebecca Naomi Jones and John Ellison Conlee, has been extended through September 29 at off-Broadway’s Union Square Theatre. Initially scheduled to play a limited engagement through July 7, Murder Ballad is currently in previews, with opening night set for May 22.
Directed by Trip Cullman, Murder Ballad features music by Juliana Nash, a book by Julia Jordan and lyrics by Nash and Jordan. The new musical centers around Sara (Levy), an Upper West Sider who, on the surface, seems to have it all—but her downtown past lingers enticingly and dangerously in front of her. Murder Ballad explores the complications of love, the compromises we make and the betrayals that ultimately undo us. Following its initial run at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Studio at Stage II in November 2012, Murder Ballad earned an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical and five Lucille Lortel nominations.
Murder Ballad includes scenic design by Mark Wendland, costume design by Jessica Pabst, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Leon Rothenberg, choreography by Doug Varone and musical direction and orchestrations by Justin Levine.
