The Recording Academy Honors, which annually present the Grammy Awards, have announced that Les Miserables composers Alain Boublil, Herbert Kretzmer and Claude-Michel Schonberg will be among the honorees at this year’s ceremony on June 25.
In addition to the Grammy-winning Les Miz composers, the Academy will honor legendary songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson, Grammy-winning violinist Joshua Bell, Grammy-winning singer Melissa Etheridge and R&B singer-songwriter Trey Songz.
Of course, this is far from the first time that bookwriter and lyricist Boublil, lyricist Kretzmer and composer/bookwriter Schonberg have been honored for their masterpiece musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s novel. The show, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010, is a surefire global phenomenon with hundreds of productions around the world, a blockbuster movie adaptation and a firm place in the lexicon of musical theater.
