Tony Flashback! Cinderella's Santino Fontana on the Night Nathan Lane & Gregory Hines Became Dreamgirls

In the weeks leading up to the 2013 Tony telecast, Broadway.com is posting video clips of favorite Tony memories of this year’s nominees, with their own commentary. First up: Best Actor in a Musical hopeful Santino Fontana of Cinderella looks back to June 4, 1995, when co-hosts Nathan Lane and Gregory Hines performed a very special medley on the stage of the Minskoff Theatre. “I’ll always remember the year Nathan Lane and Gregory Hines sang a medley of women’s songs. They talk about how women get all the best songs in musicals, and then they sing them. It was brilliant, and it was the first time I found out more about Nathan Lane. I thought, ‘Who is this guy?’ And Gregory Hines was a big influence—I was obsessed with tap dancing a long time ago. It’s just a great, hilarious medley.”
