Tickets are now available for The Banana Monologues, a new relationship comedy, running off-Broadway. The show begins performances on June 13 at Theatre Row’s Acorn Theatre, with an official opening night set for June 24.
Inspired by a true love story about a man, a woman, and his “banana,” Sergeant Johnson, the show is billed as a “romance that splits below the belt.” The Banana Monologues follows Gus Weiderman and his out-of-his-league girlfriend. When the layers of their relationship are peeled back, Gus tries to split from his girlfriend, but his sergeant stands firm. The comedy examines how a man deals with the universal issue of the way guys think.
The Banana Monologues is written by John Brennan, Mary Cimino and Jason C. Cooper and directed by Debra Whitfield. The Banana Monologues premiered at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, and went on to play various festivals throughout the United States and Canada.
