Shalita Grant, the Tony-nominated featured actress from this year’s hit comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, received the 2013 Martin E. Segal Award from Lincoln Center, according to The New York Times.
The awards were established by Lincoln Center’s board as well as friends and colleagues of Segal and are presently annually to emerging artists associated with Lincoln Center. Pianist Alessio Bax was also chosen by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center as this year’s co-recipient. Each honoree will receive $7,500 for career advancement and study.
A Juilliard graduate, Grant is making her Broadway debut as mystical maid Cassandra in the Tony-nominated Christopher Durang comedy. Before playing Broadway, Grant appeared in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike off-Broadway at Lincoln Center Theater. Her additional stage credits include The Merchant of Venice off-Broadway and The Philanderer.
