It’s been four long months since Ricky Martin took his final bow in Evita—but never fear, Ricky fans! The pop star revealed he’s hoping to return to Broadway after taking a hiatus to record his new album. Broadway.com recently caught up with Martin to chat about the theater project he’d like to take on next.
“I’d like to do something new and start from zero,” says Martin, who made his debut as Marius in Les Miserables in 1996, about a Broadway return. "I want to surround myself with good writers and good musicians. But right now I’d like to go back into the studio, record an album and then go on the road—just spend time to create in a different way.”
Until then, Martin has taken a detour down under to judge the Australian version of TV’s The Voice, and he was so inspired by jazz-singing contestant Emma Pask, he offered her the opportunity to sing on his new album. Although Martin’s schedule is packed, he assures us he’ll be back on the Great White Way sooner than later. “I’m here,” Martin says with a laugh. “I’m not going anywhere!”
