CBS will keep its "eye" on the Tony Awards through at least 2018, thanks to a newly inked deal between the network and the Broadway League and American Theatre Wing, which present the annual theater awards show.
"We’re pleased to renew our commitment to the performing arts and look forward to continuing this great and long-standing partnership by bringing the best of Broadway to primetime television for many years to come," said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music and Live Events, in a statement.
CBS has aired the annual ceremony, which honors achievement on Broadway, fsince 1978. This year, the show moves back to Radio City Music Hall after two years at the Beacon Theatre. Previously, CBS had typically only signed single-year renewals for the Tonys, save for a three-year deal in 2010.
This year’s Tonys, hosted by Broadway vet Neil Patrick Harris (in his fourth stint as emcee), will air on June 9. To gear up for theater's biggest night, check out Broadway.com's extensive coverage of the 67th Annual Tony Awards!
