Put down the gimlet and get your speech ready, Eileen! In anticipation of Smash’s two-hour series finale on May 26, we asked readers to make their prediction for how the show’s long-awaited Tony Awards will go down. Will Bombshell emerge victorious after its steep uphill climb to opening night? Or will the title of Best Musical go to Hit List, the rock tuner that transferred to Broadway seemingly overnight?
51% of voters agreed that the Ivy Lynn-led Bombshell would take home the trophy, and rightly so: it’s big, it’s splashy and it’s a true blue Broadway show. Comparatively, 26% of voters thought that Hit List would win big on Tony night—perhaps because of lyricist Kyle Bishop’s tragic passing, or perhaps because some people out there still think Karen can act.
It’s also important to add that 21% of readers thought the Tony would go to neither new musical. Smash has dropped a few hints that—yes—there are other shows on Broadway, and perhaps nothing would be sweeter than seeing someone else take the crown.
Who will actually take the title though? We’ll find out on the series finale this Sunday!
