The Public Theater’s newest Public Lab work Venice, a world premiere musical about a fallen city in a not-so-distant future, begins preview performances on May 28. The show officially opens on June 13 and will run through June 23.
Jennifer Damiano leads the cast as Willow Turner alongside Leslie Odom Jr., Haaz Sleiman, Claybourne Elder, Uzo Aduba, Jonathan-David, Emilee Dupre, Semhar Ghebremichael, Victoria Platt, Angela Polk, Devin Roberts, Matt Sax and Manuel Stark.
Sax wrote music and lyrics, with a book, lyrics and direction by Eric Rosen. Venice is part epic romance and part political fairy tale, set in a future where a young man fights for what is right against a backdrop of deceit, betrayal and a crumbling city.
Venice boasts choreography by Chase Brock, set design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Clint Ramos, lighting design by Jason Lyons, projection design by Jason H. Thompson, sound design by Acme Sound Partners and additional music by Curtis Moore.
