Happy June 1! In celebration of the beginning of the first summer month, we’re bringing you a throwback of one of our favorite clips from the annals of YouTube. Tony winner Leslie Uggams (in)famously covered the Carousel showstopper “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over” in a Washington, D.C. concert on the Capitol lawn, and Uggams indeed stopped the show with her, um, unique spin on the song. The video became a viral hit and inspired dozens of parodies in theater circles due to Uggams’ impromptu changes to the lyrics, which have been helpfully deciphered (sort of) in the video below.
