Tony nominee Stephanie J. Block will join forces with Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Capathia Jenkins and composers Neil Berg and Frank Wildhorn for Sleep Out: Broadway Edition on August 19.
Block, Jenkins, Berg and Wildhorn serve as the executive committee (alongside honorary co-chairs Hanks and Wilson) for the Broadway arm of Covenant House’s Sleep Out program, which involves a one-night fundraising event wherein participants sleep outside under the stars to support homeless youth.
The evening begins with a round of dialogue between formerly homeless teens and participating sleepers, all of whom will share and hear stories before receiving a cardboard box, sleeping bag and safe piece of pavement for the night.
Sleep Out: Broadway Edition is open to any member of the theater community who has worked on a Broadway or off-Broadway production in any capacity. Founded in 1972, Covenant House supports homeless kids with 24/7 crisis care and ongoing support at 21 facilities.
