Magic Mike and True Blood star Joe Manganiello will incite desire this fall when he stars as Stanley Kowalski in Yale Rep’s staging of A Streetcar Named Desire, according to The Wall Street Journal. Directed by Mark Rucker, this will be Yale Rep’s first production of the Tennessee Williams classic. A Streetcar Named Desire will run September 20 through October 12 at the University Theatre. No further casting has been announced.
Manganiello’s stage credits include A Streetcar Named Desire at the West Virginia Public Theatre, Unusual Acts of Devotion, Skirts & Flirts, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, The Merchant of Venice and When We Dead Awaken. His memorable screen credits include How I Met Your Mother, Spider-Man, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, One Tree Hill and American Heiress. He is best known for playing werewolf Alcide Herveaux on the sexy HBO thriller True Blood.
Streetcar tells the tragic story of fragile former schoolteacher Blanche, who leaves the family plantation house and moves to New Orleans to live with her sister, Stella and Stella’s animalistic husband, Stanley (Manganiello). She quickly learns tough lessons in the seamy underbelly of the 1940s French Quarter.
