Recording artist Sting will release The Last Ship, his first new album in over a decade, this fall. The LP is comprised of songs from Sting’s upcoming musical of the same name, which has its sights set on Broadway for a 2014 run.
The New York Times reports that the album (to be released on September 24) will include songs from the musical and others that did not make the cut into the show. Sting has been collaborating on the musical with John Logan (I’ll Eat You Last) and Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal) for several years.
The Last Ship is based on Sting’s concert album The Soul Cages and is inspired by his childhood experiences growing up in Newcastle. The musical tells the story of a family of shipyard workers who embark on a global voyage as the shipyard that employs them prepares to close.
