Tony and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Alice Ripley will lead the Balagan Theatre’s fall production of Carrie. Ripley will star as Carrie’s religious fanatic mother, Margaret White, opposite Keaton Whittaker (A Little Night Music) as the show’s title character. Directed by Ripley’s Next to Normal co-star and Balagan Theatre’s Artistic Director Louis Hobson, the musical will also feature Broadway vet Kendra Kassebaum (Wicked, Leap of Faith) as Miss Gardner. A co-production with with Seattle Theatre Group, Carrie will play October 11 through 26.
"I was involved in the workshop process of the recent MCC revival of Carrie and it is exciting to return to the material with this amazing mix of top NYC and Seattle talent," Hobson said in a statement.
In addition to Carrie, the Balagan Theatre 2013-2014 mainstage season will include Les Miserables September 6 through 28; A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pagent November 22 through December 21; Jerry Springer The Opera January 10 through 26; and the glam-grunge rock musical Nirvanov in the spring 2014.
The Balagan Theatre's New Works program will debut five new musicals beginning in July: Thanksilling, The Roary 21st, Island Song, Pump Up the Volume and NYC-bound Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, a time-bending, two-person show about a contemporary single working mother and the famed historic Antarctic explorer.
In addition to Next to Normal, Ripley has appeared on Broadway in Side Show, The Rocky Horror Show, James Joyce’s The Dead, Sunset Boulevard, Les Miserables and The Who’s Tommy.
