After lamenting the woes of having a cancelled TV show on the Tonys, Megan Hilty will find herself back on the airwaves this fall opposite her former Smash co-star Sean Hayes in his new NBC comedy Sean Saves the World.
TVLine reports that Hilty has scored a series regular gig as Liz, the best friend and co-worker of Hayes’ character, who is trying to balance his stressful work life with the perils of raising a teenage daughter. Joining Hayes and Hilty are fellow Broadway star Linda Lavin, as well as Echo Kellum, Thomas Lennon, Samantha Isler and Vik Sahay.
Hilty and Hayes had quite the storyline in season two of Smash, which found Hilty’s Ivy Lynn going head to head with Hayes’ obnoxious Hollywood star Terrence Falls in a Broadway production of Dangerous Liaisons. The two ended up on the same side, but not without a few hiccups along the way.
This is the second major TV appearance for Hilty, who has starred on Broadway in 9 to 5 and Wicked. She’ll next appear in a staged reading of the Broadway-bound revival of Can-Can.
