The Banana Monologues, a one-man sex comedy starring John R. Brennan, opens June 24 at the Acorn Theatre on Theatre Row. Written by Brennan, Mary Cimino and Jason C. Cooper, the solo show is directed by Debra Whitfield.
Inspired by a true love story about a man, a woman and his “banana,” Sergeant Johnson, The Banana Monologues follows Gus Weiderman (Brennan), who tells stories of his out-of-his-league girlfriend. When the layers of their relationship are peeled back, Gus tries to split from his girlfriend—but his sergeant stands firm. Gus must deal with this all-too-common conflict between lust and love.
The Banana Monologues premiered at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. The show went on to play various festivals throughout the United States and Canada.
