Matthew Saldivar, Robert Petkoff and Michael Park are joining an all-star roster for the Encores! presentation of Marc Blitzstein’s The Cradle Will Rock. Directed by Sam Gold and choreographed by Chase Brock, the political musical plays New York City Center July 10 through 13.
The show, headlined by Raul Esparza, will feature Saldivar as Reverend Salvation, Petkoff as Professor Trixie/Gus Polock, Park as Trixie/Bugs/Dick, Aidan Gemme as Steve/Prof Mamie/Cop and David Margulies as Prexy. The previously announced cast includes Danny Burstein as Mr. Mister, Anika Noni Rose as Moll/Mrs. Mister, Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Ella Hammer, Judy Kuhn as Sadie/Editor Daily, Martin Moran as Yasha/Sister Mister, Eisa Davis as Reporter/Prof Scoot/Clerk/Dr. Specialist, Peter Friedman as Harry Druggist and Henry Stram as Dauber/Junior Mister. Chris Fenwick musically directs.
The Cradle Will Rock, with music, lyrics and book by Blitzstein, is set against the backdrop of a steel strike and peopled with fat-cat capitalists, brutal policemen, heroic union organizers and a warm-hearted prostitute.
Saldivar’s Broadway credits include Grease, Peter and the Starcatcher, The Wedding Singer and A Streetcar Named Desire. Petkoff has appeared on Broadway in Ragtime, Anything Goes, Spamalot, Fiddler on the Roof and Epic Proportions. Park’s Broadway shows include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Little Me, Smokey Joe’s Café and Carousel. Gemme played Michael Banks in Mary Poppins on Broadway. Margulies appeared on Broadway in Conversations With My Father, Comedians, The West Side Waltz, Wonderful Town, 45 Seconds From Broadway, Angels In America and Brighton Beach Memoirs. His screen credits include Ghostbusters, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, 9 ½ Weeks, All That Jazz and The Sopranos.
The Cradle Will Rock marks the inaugural production of Encores! Off Center-Series.
