Woody Allen is not afraid to mix it up, casting screen actors in his stage musical and casting stage stars in his latest movie. The Hollywood Reporter reports that New York stage vets Hamish Linklater, Marcia Gay Harden, Jacki Weaver and Eileen Atkins have all signed on to join Allen’s new untitled film.
The new comedy is currently filming in the south of France, and like most Allen films, little is known about the plot. This handful of stage and screen actors join previously announced stars Jeremy Shamos, Emma Stone and Colin Firth.
Linklater most recently appeared in Shakespeare in the Park’s The Comedy of Errors. A perennial off-Broadway performer, he made his Broadway debut in the comedy Seminar. Harden won a Tony Award in 2009 for her starring role in God of Carnage and also originated the role of Harper Pitt in the Broadway production of Angels in America. An accomplished Australian stage star, Weaver appeared in Uncle Vanya with Cate Blanchett at New York City Center. A four-time Tony nominee, Atkins has appeared in Doubt, A Room of One’s Own, The Unexpected Man, Indiscretions and The Retreat From Moscow.
