Taylor Dayne is joining the Jellicle tribe! The pop singer and Broadway alum will play Grizabella in Cats at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn, NY. The production will be directed and choreographed by Jacob Brent, who played Mr. Mistoffelees on Broadway, in the West End and in the musical’s film adaptation. Performances begin August 21, and the production will play a limited engagement through September 11. No additional casting has been announced
Based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, the musical features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Eliot, Trevor Nunn and Richard Stilgoe. Cats originally opened on May 11, 1981, in the West End. The musical opened at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre on October 7, 1982. The production won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Featured Actress for Betty Buckley, who played Grizabella and sang the show-stopping anthem "Memory."
