Things are really heating up in New York City this summer, and you know what that means—it’s the perfect time to catch a cool, air-conditioned Broadway show! Awards season may be over, but there’s still a ton of fun events going on, with Wendy Williams, Zachary Levi and Orlando Bloom making their Broadway debuts, Paulo Szot’s first 54 Below engagement, a new musical version of Love’s Labour’s Lost in Central Park, and lots more. With all of this excitement going on, we asked you which Broadway event you are most looking forward to seeing this summer. Check out the results below!
1. Zachary Levi’s First Date with Krysta Rodriguez — 34%
We’ve wanted Zachary Levi to make his Broadway debut ever since TV’s Chuck began (and how could we forget Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel?!), and clearly, we’re not alone. A whopping 34% of fans are psyched to see the Broadway premiere of First Date, starring Levi and Broadway favorite Krysta Rodriguez as a mismatched pair of blind daters who are hoping to find the one. Catch Date beginning July 9!
2. Lindsay Mendez Defying Gravity in Wicked — 18%
Lindsay Mendez has already cracked us up in Grease, brought down the house Godspell and made us sob in Dogfight, so it’s no wonder that 18% of fans are super-excited to see her go green as Elphaba in Wicked. See her flying high at the Gershwin Theatre, and don’t forget to check out her new Broadway.com video blog, Fly Girl, for a behind-the-scenes look at her new role.
3. Sutton Foster’s One-Night-Only Violet at Encores! Off-Center — 15%
Sure, it’s been great to watch Sutton Foster become a Hollywood star before our eyes on TV’s Bunheads, but it’s about time she returned to New York City! The two-time Tony winner will star in the Encores! production of Violet at New York City Center for one night only on July 17. A longer engagement would be nice, but 15% of fans are thrilled nonetheless!
