Casting is complete for David Leveaux's upcoming Broadway production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The world's most famous story of star-crossed love, starring Orlando Bloom and Tony nominee Condola Rashad, will be bought to life at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on August 24, with opening night set for September 19.
In addition to previously announced featured players Brent Carver (Friar Laurence), Jayne Houdyshell (the Nurse), Chuck Cooper (Lord Capulet), Christian Camargo (Mercutio), Roslyn Ruff (Lady Capulet), Conrad Kemp (Benvolio), Justin Guarini (Paris), Corey Hawkins (Tybalt) and Geoffrey Owens (Prince Escalus), the ensemble will feature Donte Bonner, Joe Carroll, Don Guillory, Sheria Irving, Maurice Jones, Eric Loscheider, Spencer Plachy, Michael Rudko, Tracy Sallows, Thomas Schall, Carolyn Michelle Smith and Nance Williamson.
The first Broadway staging in 36 years, this revival of Romeo and Juliet will retain Shakespeare’s language while moving the setting to contemporary times in which the warring Montague and Capulet families are of different ethnicities.
The creative team for Romeo and Juliet will include scenic design by Jesse Poleshuck, costume design by Fabio Toblini, lighting design by David Weiner, sound design by David Van Tieghem and hair design by David Brian Brown.
