Around the world in 730 days! Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is launching an international tour of Hamlet beginning April 2014, with the goal of bringing the Bard’s masterpiece to every country in the world, according to Australia’s Herald Sun. Featuring a cast of eight, the production will conclude the tour on April 23, 2016, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Casting, dates and cities have not yet been announced.
“By train, coach, plane and boat, we aim to take this wonderful, iconic, multifarious play to as many fresh ears as we possibly can,” said Globe artistic director Dominic Dromgoole. Hamlet plans to tour 205 nations and territories over the course of the tour, including Helsignor in Denmark (where Hamlet is set), and the Rift Valley in Kenya. The tour will begin and end at Shakespeare’s Globe in London.
“We are aware that it is insanely ambitious,” said Globe spokesperson Emma Draper.
This be madness, yet there is method in't!
