Carl Lumbly (Jitney, TV’s Alias and Cagney & Lacey) and LaTanya Richardson Jackson (Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, The Fighting Temptations on film) are headed to Signature Theatre Company in the world premiere of Regina Taylor’s stop. reset. The play will begin previews on August 20 at the Pershing Square Signature Center’s Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre, with opening night set for September 8, directed by Taylor. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through September 29.
In addition to Jackson and Lumbly, the cast of stop. reset. will include Michi Barall (Queens Boulevard, An Oresteia), Teagle Bougere (Wings, A Raisin in the Sun), Ismael Cruz Cordova (Sesame Street) and Donald Sage Mackay (Scrubs).
The new play centers on Alex Ames (Lumbly), owner of Chicago’s oldest African-American book publishing company. As e-books outsell printed books, Ames must question his employees to determine who is still relevant in a rapidly changing world. When he meets J (Cordova), a mysterious youth plugged into the future, Ames is forced to discover how far he will go to survive in a world where the real and the virtual are more closely tied than we think.
The design team for stop. reset. includes Neil Patel (scenic design), Karen Perry (costume design), Lap Chi Chu (lighting design), Robert Kaplowitz (sound design), Shawn Sagady (projection design), Valerie Gladstone (hair and makeup design), Rick Sordelet (fight direction) and Stephen Gabis (vocal and dialect coach).
