Encores! is offering New York audiences the chance to travel back in time to New York City in the late 1970s, when the music was fine and the attitudes toward women were undergoing a major shift. For one weekend only, New York City Center hosts Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford’s groundbreaking feminist folk musical I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road. Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Kathleen Marshall, the musical stars Renée Elise Goldsberry as divorced pop singer Heather Jones, who on the eve of her 40th birthday decides she’s going to change her act to reflect a changing world. The production co-stars Fred Weller as her manager and Christina Sajous and Jennifer Sanchez as Jones’ backup singers. I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road runs July 24 through July 27 only. Get a first look at the cast in costume in this curtain call shot with creators Cryer (who played Heather in the original production) and Ford.
