Tony-nominated Matilda composer Tim Minchin revealed that he is reuniting with director Matthew Warchus on a new musical. According to the U.K.'s The Guardian, exact details of the new tuner are shrouded in secrecy, but it's an adaptation based on "a very interesting, arty but much-loved early-90s film" and "it will be more complex and dark [than Matilda]."
Minchin, who is about to star in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead for the Sydney Theatre Company, also confirmed that he has been working on the project for six months and is collaborating with Warchus, but he said that they "are going to try and start it quietly." As previously reported, Minchin is set to add his quirky musical magic to DreamWorks' new animated film, Larrikins.
Minchin is the composer and lyricist of the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilda, the Olivier Award-winning West End and Broadway show which was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score.
