A distinguished cast has signed on for the world premiere of The Herd, the playwriting debut of award-winning actor Rory Kinnear. The production will begin previews at London’s Bush Theatre on September 13 and open on September 18 for a limited engagement through October 26, directed by Howard Davies.
The Herd will feature Adrian Bower (Elling), Louise Brealey (The Trojan Women), Anna Calder Marshall (Uncle Vanya, Anna Karenina), Kenneth Cranham (An Inspector Calls), Adrian Rawlins (The Miser) and Amanda Root (Tony nomination for The Norman Conquests).
The Herd is described as a witty and heartfelt look at family life when it doesn’t turn out quite the way you imagined. It's Andy Griffith's 21st birthday—not that he's counting. But his mother Carol (Root) is. Counting the minutes until he arrives, counting the unexpected guests, counting the times that an unspecified “this” has happened before.
Kinnear is currently playing Iago in the National Theatre’s acclaimed production of Othello. He is an Evening Standard Award winner for Meaure for Measure and Hamlet and Olivier Award winner for The Man of Mode. On screen, Kinnear has appeared in Skyfall and Broken.
