Sigourney Weaver recently departed the Tony-winning Best Play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and it seems the Oscar-nominated actress is already lining up her next gig: a role in the The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, the sequel to the upcoming supernatural flick The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones . According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weaver, a vet of sci-fi classics Alien (and its sequels) and Avatar, is in talks to join the second installment of the film franchise as the ruthless leader of the Shadowhunters, who will stop at nothing to avenge her son’s death.
Like the first film, The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes follows the adventures of a girl (Lily Collins) who finds out she is a demon-slaying Shadowhunter and embarks on a journey with Downworlders like werewolves, vampires and faeries. Based on the six-part young adult books by Cassandra Clare, the films are directed by Harald Zwart.
In addition to Weaver and Collins, the cast also features Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers, Robert Sheehan and Jemima West.
