Tony and Olivier Award-winning director Trevor Nunn will helm the London revival of Scenes from a Marriage, starring screen and stage actress Olivia Williams as Marianne. Written by Ingmar Bergman and adapted by Joanna Murray-Smith, the play will run at the St. James Theatre from September 11 through November 9, with an opening night set for September 16.
Scenes From a Marriage is an intimate, honest and moving love story that follows Johan and Marianne (Williams) from happily married couple to warring contenders in divorce and beyond. Further casting will be announced.
Williams co-starred in the films The Sixth Sense, The Postman, Hyde Park on Hudson, An Education, Rushmore, The Heart of Me, The Ghost Writer, Anna Karenina and X-Men: The Last Stand. Her TV credits include Miss Austen Regrets, Dollhouse and Case Sensitive. On stage, she appeared in The Changeling, In a Forest, Dark and Deep, The Hotel in Amsterdam, Happy Now, Richard III and Love’s Labour’s Lost, directed by Nunn.
Nunn won Tony Awards for directing the iconic blockbusters Les Miserables, Cats and The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby. He picked up additional nominations for Starlight Express, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard, Not About Nightingales Oklahoma! and All’s Well That Ends Well. A former artistic director of the Royal National Theatre, he won Olivier Awards for Nicholas Nickelby, The Merchant of Venice and Summerfolk, as well as a special award in 2002 for Outstanding Achievement.
