Tickets are now available for the productions of Breakfast with Mugabe and Final Analysis. The two dramas about the inherently evil qualities of man run in rep at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center from August 7 through October 6.
The shows feature Ezra Barnes, Che Ayende, Rosalyn Coleman, Tony Naumovski, Michael Satow, Elizabeth Jasicki, Gannon McHale and Michael Rogers.
Written by Fraser Grace, Breakfast with Mugabe is inspired by accounts that Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, who was severely depressed, sought treatment from a white psychiatrist. The drama, which premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2005, explores the tension between modern ideas and ancient beliefs and the question of whether those who were colonized can live with their former subjugators. Breakfast with Mugabe runs from August 7 through October 5. The play, directed by David Shookhoff, features set design by Lee Savage, lighting design by Joyce Liao, costumes by Teresa Snider-Stein and sound design by Colin Whitely.
Otho Eskin's Final Analysis is set in turn-of-the-century Vienna—the crossroads of civilization—a major confluence of art, music, science and politics. But, festering beneath the facade of frivolity and joy, the city is rotting at its core, sickened by moral corruption, obsessed with death, and ravaged by a growing hatred of the Jews. Against this background, Gustav Mahler, the great composer and conductor, falls in love with the talented, tempestuous Alma Schindler; Joseph Stalin meets a dangerous young man over a game of chess; Ludwig Wittgenstein, destined to become a dominant force in world philosophy, runs into an old schoolmate with unpleasant consequences, and in the midst of this, Sigmund Freud faces what he has always denied—the essential, evil nature of man. Final Analysis runs from August 8 through October 6. Directed by Ludovica Villar-Hauser, Final Analysis features costumes by Jenny Green, set design by Savage, lighting design by Liao and sound design by Jill BC DuBoff.
