Michael Cerveris, Judy Kuhn, Alexandra Socha and more are heading to a funeral parlor. After a sold-out run at the Public Lab last season, the new musical Fun Home—which features music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Lisa Kron—will make its official world premiere in a Sam Gold-directed production running from September 30 through November 3. Opening night is set for October 22.
The complete cast of Fun Home includes Griffin Birney as John Bechdel, Cerveris as Bruce Bechdel, Roberta Colindrez at Joan, Noah Hinsdale as Christian Bechdel, Kuhn as Helen, Sydney Lucas as Small Alison, Beth Malone as Alison, Joel Perez as Roy and Socha as Medium Alison. Most of the actors are reprising their roles from the Public Lab production.
Based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, the musical charts one girl’s quest to come to terms with her father’s unexpected death. Moving between past and present, Alison dives into the story of her volatile, brilliant father and relives her unique childhood at the family’s funeral home.
The fall section of the Public’s 2013-14 season also includes Mike Daisey’s month-long monologue series All The Faces of The Moon (September 5-October 3); Elevator Repair Service’s provocative political piece Arguendo (September 10-October 6); The Foundry Theatre’s production of Good Person of Szechwan (October 18-November 24); and Richard Nelson’s fourth and final Apple family play Regular Singing (beginning November 22).
