Is Glee heading to Broadway? Gary Newman, the 20th Century Fox Television co-head, announced plans for a stage musical during a recent shareholders presentation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We launched a live stage business with a sold-out arena concert tour in 2011, and now a live stage musical is in the works,” Newman said.
This is not the first time a stage musical idea has been discussed by the Glee team. In 2010, co-creator Ryan Murphy stated that a Broadway version was "definitely" happening.
No word if the stage musical would feature series stars (and Broadway veterans) like Lea Michele, Darren Criss and Matthew Morrison, or if the piece would feature a whole new company of actors to play the beloved McKinley High characters. No creative team or timeline has been announced.
Glee returns to FOX for its fifth season on September 26.
