TV star Jackée Harry begins her very limited engagement in off-Broadway’s NEWSical the Musical on August 23. The 227 Emmy winner will perform at the Kirk Theatre through August 27.
NEWSical the Musical is the forever changing, completely un-sanitized musical mockery of all the news that’s fit to spoof. From Honey Boo Boo to Paula Deen, Andrew Weiner to A-Rod, marriage equality to Kim and Kanye’s baby North West, NEWSical sets all of today’s biggest pop culture headlines to music.
Hrry previously appeared onstage in The Boys From Syracuse, A Broadway Musical, The Cleanup Woman and as Billie Holiday in Lady Day At Emerson’s Bar and Grill. She is currently juggling starring roles in three different TV series: First Family, Let’s Stay Together and the upcoming Boy Meets World spin-off Girl Meets World. Harry made history as the first African-American to an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her iconic TV character Sandra Clark on 227. TV fans also know her from the long-running sitcom Sister, Sister, Another World, The Women of Brewster Place, The Royal Family and Everybody Hates Chris.
Created by Rick Crom and directed by Mark Waldrop, NEWSical also stars Christine Pedi, Michael West, David Foley Jr., Susan Mosher, Kristen Mengelkoch and Dylan H. Thompson. Harry is the latest on a growing roster of stars to lead NEWSical. Within the last year, the show welcomed guest headliners Perez Hilton, Tony nominee Andrea McArdle, Cheri Oteri and Emmy winner Carson Kressley.
