Will McAvoy has plenty more sociopolitical monologues up his sleeve for 2014! Emmy and Tony nominee Jeff Daniels has revealed that HBO has handed a renewal order to The Newsroom for a third season.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Daniels—who stars on the show as surly yet sensitive news anchor Will McAvoy—tweeted the news himself on September 3: “It’s official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3.” The Aaron Sorkin-created show is currently in its second season, which ends on September 15 with a two-parter dedicated to the night of the 2012 election.
The Newsroom has received its share of criticism for its first two seasons, but ratings have risen for the Emmy-nominated series, which chronicles real life news events as they’re unearthed and reported by the staff of the fictional Atlantis Cable News. Daniels stars alongside Emily Mortimer, John Gallagher Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn and Sam Waterston.
