Sisters Liza Minnelli and Lorna Luft will take the stage at Birdland on October 14 and October 21 for the 2013 edition of Nothing Like a Dame: Lorna’s Pink Party, an Actors Fund benefit raising money and awareness for the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative and Dr. Philomena McAndrew Fund of Tower Cancer Research Foundation.
Judy Garland’s big-voiced daughters will reunite for the first time in 20 years; the last time they shared the stage was at the 1993 Tony Awards. Minnelli and Luft will be joined by Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell, Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Nick Adams, Liz and Ann Hampton Callaway, Kelly King, Jim Caruso and Marcia Strassman.
Winner of three Tonys, an Oscar, an Emmy, two Golden Globes and a Grammy, Minnelli appeared on Broadway in the musicals The Rink, Flora, the Red Menace, The Act, Chicago and Victor/Victoria, as well as the concerts Liza, Minnelli on Minnelli and Liza’s at the Palace. Her film credits include Cabaret, New York, New York, Arthur, Charlie Bubbles, Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon, Lucky Lady, A Matter of Time, , Stepping Out and The Oh In Ohio. She also co-starred on the Emmy-winning TV series Arrested Development.
Luft appeared on Broadway in Promises, Promises and the concert special Judy Garland: At Home at the Palace. Her film and TV credits include Grease 2, Trapper John, M.D. and Murder She Wrote. She starred in the national tour of They’re Playing Our Song, off-Broadway in Snoopy the Musical and in The Wizard of Oz in London. Her debut album, Songs My Mother Taught Me was released in 2007, produced by Barry Manilow. In 2013, Luft went public with her recent battle against breast cancer.
