Five-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury will have a brand new trophy to add to her mantel on November 16—an Oscar! The Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner will receive an honorary Academy Award at the 5th annual Governers Awards in Los Angeles, CA, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Legendary Lansbury isn’t the only celeb going home with a coveted Oscar. Steve Martin, who starred in Waiting For Godot off-Broadway and wrote several off-Broadway plays, including The Underpants and Piscasso at the Lapin Agile, will be given an honorary Oscar. Costume designer Piero Tosi will also receive an award, and Angelina Jolie will take home the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
Lansbury won Tony Awards for Blithe Spirit, Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, Mame and Dear World. Her additional Broadway credits include Hotel Paradiso, Taste of Honey, Anyone Can Whistle, The King and I, A Little Family Business, Deuce, A Little Night Music and The Best Man. She garnered Oscar nominations for her performances in Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Manchurian Candidate. The celebrated star of Murder, She Wrote, Lansbury’s additional film and TV credits include Beauty and the Beast, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Nanny McPhee and The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders.
