Class is in session! A revival of Jon Robin Baitz’s 1988 drama The Film Society begins performances off-Broadway on September 10, starring Tony nominee Euan Morton and Broadway vet Roberta Maxwell. Helmed by Jonathan Silverstein, the Keen Company production opens on October 1 at the Clurman Theatre on Theatre Row for a limited engagement through October 26.
In addition to Morton and Maxwell, The Film Society features Gerry Bamman, David Barlow, Mandy Siegfried and Richmond Hoxie.
Set in 1970 in a South African school for boys, The Film Society tells the story of Jonathon Balton (Morton), a young teacher who struggles to keep politics out of his extracurricular film club. After the school becomes embroiled in an Apartheid controversy, he must decide whether to support his activist colleague or side with the headmaster who can make or break his career.
