Is the "Godfather of Shock Rock" ready to make "A Freak Like Me Needs Company" all his own? Alice Cooper is reportedly in negotiations to play the Green Goblin role in Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark. According to the New York Post, show producer Michael Cohl would like to see the legendary rocker portray Spider-Man's menacing archnemesis.
Though a representative for the musical, which plays at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre, couldn't confirm the Post's story, Cooper seems like a natural fit. His shocking stage shows have featured guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, boa constrictors and more. He's also appeared in films, including Wayne's World and Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, and hosts the popular radio show Nights with Alice Cooper.
Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark follows the story of Peter Parker (Justin Matthew Sargent), whose life takes a turn for the extraordinary when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and finds himself endowed with superpowers. Parker quickly learns that with great power comes great responsibility as he tries to juggle the demands of high school and home life, while battling the Green Goblin (Robert Cuccioli) and his band of super villains. Peter must fight to save everything he holds dear, including the beautiful girl-next-door, Mary Jane Watson (Rebecca Faulkenberry).
