Mary Bridget Davies, we have a feeling you’ll be hanging this one up on the dressing room wall! The latest Broadway Ink from master sketch artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson is one for the ages as it celebrates the newest arrival to Broadway: Janis Joplin! In A Night with Janis Joplin (opening on October 10 at the Lyceum Theatre), Davies steps into the shoes of the legendary rock singer, delivering a mesmerizing performance as she sings Joplin classics like “Piece of My Heart” and “Me and Bobby McGee.” Joining Davies on stage are a quartet of divas who inspired Joplin and also made it into Squigs’ portrait! Can you spy Allison Blackwell as Aretha Franklin, De’Adre Aziza as Nina Simone, Nikki Kimbrough as Etta James and Taprena Michelle Augustine as Bessie Smith? Check out the colorful masterpiece above, and learn more about Squigs below!
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
