Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots star Billy Porter is in negotiations to join the movie adaptation of Philip Roth's novel The Humbling, according to Deadline.com and confirmed by the star, who tweeted a link to the story saying "this is gonna happen." Tony winner Mandy Patinkin, Al Pacino, Greta Gerwif and Dianne Wiest are already on board.
The Humbling features a slew of eccentric characters. It centers on the tale of a declining stage actor (Pacino) who retires to his upstate New York farmhouse and begins an affair with a considerably younger woman. Helmed by Barry Levinson, it has a script by Buck Henry, Michal Zebede and Levinson. It aims to begin shooting in fall 2014.
This isn't the only screen appearance on the cards for Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Porter; he is also appearing on Law & Order: SVU in a guest-lead spot. In addition to playing Lola in Kinky Boots, Porter has also appeared on the Great White Way in Grease, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Five Guys Named Moe and Miss Saigon. His other credits include Dreamgirls, Ghetto Superstar (The Man That I Am) and Angels in America. Screen credits include The Broken Hearts Club, Twisted and Shake, Rattle and Roll as Little Richard.
