The West End production of Noel Coward’s Private Lives is coming to a theater near you! The hit London production, starring Toby Stephens and Anna Chancellor and directed by Jonathan Kent, will be screened in cinemas worldwide as part of the West End Theatre Series. The play will hit U.K. movie theaters beginning February 6, 2014 and will play a one-night only engagement in the United States on December 11.
Coward’s 1930 comedy tells the story of Elyot Chase (Stephens) and Amanda Prynne (Chancellor), a couple who are glamorous, rich, reckless and divorced. But after five years, their love for one another is rekindled when they are coincidentally placed in adjoining rooms at the a Rivera hotel. The problem? They’re both honeymooning with their new spouses. The Chichester Festival Theatre production premiered September 21, 2012 at the Minerva Theatre before transferring to the West End on July 3, 2013. In addition to Stephens and Chancellor, Private Lives features Anna-Louise Plowman as Sibyl Chase, Anthony Calf as Victor Prynne and Sue Kelvin as Louise.
Stephens’ theater credits include Danton’s Death, The Real Thing, A Doll’s House, Betrayal, A Streetcar Named Desire, Coriolanus and Phedre. His film and TV credits include Jane Eyre, Die Another Day and Vexed. Chancellor's stage and screen appearances include Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Hour, My Fair Lady, Wallenstein, The Deep Blue Sea, Neverland, The Power of Yes and Death and the Maiden. Plowman’s stage credits include Three Tall Women, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, Musical Scenes and Thirst. Her TV credits include Cambridge Spies, New Tricks and Dr. Who.
