What do you get when you cross a comedy musical with a touch of Agatha Christie? The summer hit Murder For Two, which starts performances at its latest off-Broadway home, New World Stages, on October 23. The musical is slated to play a limited engagement through January 5, 2014, with opening night set for November 6. Directed by Scott Schwartz, the production previously played at Second Stage Uptown, where the run was extended twice, closing on August 25.
Featuring a book by Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair, music by Kinosian and lyrics by Blair, the production stars Jeff Blumenkrantz and Brett Ryback, who both accompany themselves on the piano. The show follows aspiring detective Officer Marcus Moscowitz (Ryback) in his attempt to solve the murder of an acclaimed writer. Moscowitz, along with the audience, gets to know a long line of suspects (all played by Blumenkrantz) and pieces together the mysterious puzzle.
The creative team for Murder For Two includes set designer Beowulf Boritt, costume designer Andrea Lauer, lighting designer Jason Lyons and sound designer Jill BC DuBoff.
