Tony winner Nina Arianda is set to return to Manhattan Theatre Club in the world premiere of David Grimm's previously announced political drama Tales From Red Vienna. Directed by Kate Whoriskey, the play will begin previews on February 26, 2014 and open on March 18 at MTC at New York City Center — Stage I.
Tales From Red Vienna tells the story of Helena (Arianda), a woman who, having lost her husband and financial security in World War I, struggles to maintain her way of life as she becomes a part of an illicit underworld. She manages to separate her secret life from her public persona until she crosses paths with someone who has the power to expose and ruin her.
Arianda won a 2012 Tony Award for her role as Vanda in David Ives’ Venus in Fur, following her nomination for her performance in Born Yesterday. Her film credits include The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Midnight in Paris, Tower Heist, Win Win and Higher Ground, and her TV resume includes 30 Rock and The Good Wife. Arianda will also demonstrate her vocal chops when she plays Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic titled Janis.
The creative team for Tales From Red Vienna will include scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Anita Yavich, lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski, sound design by Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen and fighting direction by Thomas Schall.
