MCC Theater’s fall thriller Small Engine Repair begins previews on October 30 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Written by John Pollono and directed by Jo Bonney, the New York premiere production is scheduled to run through December 8, with opening night set for November 20. The show stars the playwright, Keegan Allen (Pretty Little Liars), James Ransone (The Wire) and James Badge Dale (World War Z).
In Small Engine Repair, Frank (Pollono), Swaino (Dale) and Packie (Ransone) are buddies since high school, now past their prime. They meet off-hours in Frank’s out-of-the-way repair shop under cloudy circumstances. Enter Chad (Allen), a plugged-in, preppy college jock, whose arrival ignites an explosion of long-simmering resentment and rage in this twisty, comic thriller.
Small Engine Repair premiered in 2011 at the Rogue Machine Theatre in Los Angeles. The play won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Award for Playwriting as well as an Ovation Award and three Garland Awards.
