Merle Good’s The Preacher and the Shrink, Starring Dee Hoty, Begins Performances Off-Broadway

How far will a father go to save his daughter? The question provides the theme of Merle Good’s new off-Broadway play The Preacher and the Shrink, which begins performances on November 2 at the Beckett Theatre on Theatre Row. Starring three-time Tony nominee Dee Hoty, the show will open on November 18 for a limited run that ends on January 4, 2014. Directed by Steven Yuhasz, the cast also includes Tom Galantich, Mat Hostetler, Nicholas Urda and Adria Vitlar.

The Preacher and the Shrink follows a spirited young woman who makes a sexual accusation which checkmates her father, a popular and respected pastor. They have been estranged for years by a deep grief. Will she follow through? Will he fight back? Even the psychiatrist who tries to help becomes conflicted when middle age romance develops. The play unwraps these struggles with startling consequences.

The production features set design by Brian Prather, lighting design by Kirk Bookman, costume design by Carol Sherry and sound design by Patrick Weaver.
