Tony nominee Kathleen Chalfant is set to join previously announced Tony winner Nina Arianda in the world premiere of David Grimm's political drama Tales From Red Vienna. Directed by Kate Whoriskey, the Manhattan Theatre Club production will begin previews on February 26, 2014 and open on March 18 at MTC at New York City Center — Stage I.
Tales From Red Vienna tells the story of Helena (Arianda), a woman who, having lost her husband and financial security in World War I, struggles to maintain her way of life as she becomes a part of an illicit underworld. She manages to separate her secret life from her public persona until she crosses paths with someone who has the power to expose and ruin her.
Chalfant earned a Tony nomination for Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, and most recently starred in Vineyard Theatre's production of Jenny Schwartz’s Somewhere Fun. Chalfant's Broadway credits include Angels in America: Perestroika, M. Butterfly and Racing Demon. Her film and TV credits include House of Cards, Kinsey, Perfect Stranger, Junior, Rescue Me, Law & Order, The Guardian and the 2002 TV movie adaptation of The Laramie Project.
