Tickets are now on sale for the off-Broadway transfer of the drama Breakfast with Mugabe. The production will play at The Lion Theatre (at Theatre Row) from January 2, 2014 with performances running through to March 2. Opening night is set for January 12. The show previously appeared at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre Pershing Square Signature Center.
Written by Fraser Grace, Breakfast with Mugabe is inspired by accounts that Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, who was severely depressed, sought treatment from a white psychiatrist. The drama, which premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2005, explores the tension between modern ideas and ancient beliefs and the question of whether those who were colonized can live with their former subjugators.
Directed by David Shookhoff, the cast features Ezra Barnes, Michael Rogers, Rosalyn Coleman, and Che Ayende.
