The Public Theater's acclaimed production of the David Byrne-Fatboy Slim musical Here Lies Love, about the political rise and fall of Filipino leaders Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos, will perform a one-night-only benefit concert in support of the people of the Philippines on November 25 at Terminal 5. Proceeds from the concert will go to support Doctors Without Borders Medecins Sans Frontieres relief efforts in the Philippines in the wake of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
“The show is about the resiliency of the Philippine people—it couldn’t be more timely,” said Byrne, in a statement. “Upon hearing about this tragedy the cast contacted me about doing a show to raise money for the relief efforts. Most of our cast is Filipino, and all of us feel the same way. It’s personal for all of us. We all dropped whatever we were doing and this concert version of the show will happen on November 25 at Terminal 5 here in New York.”
The special Here Lies Love benefit concert will feature original cast members Renee Albulario, Melody Butiu, Natalie Cortez, Debralee Daco, Jaygee Macapugay, Jose Llana, Jeigh Madjus, Ruthie Ann Miles, Maria-Christina Oliveras, Conrad Ricamora, George Salazar, Trevor Salter and Janelle Velasquez.
Set to the beat of a throbbing dance club score, Here Lies Love tells the story of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos, her meteoric rise to celebrity and subsequent descent into infamy. Directed by Alex Timbers, the show is an immersive theatrical experience that puts audience members directly into the action in a 360-degree scenic and video environment. Here Lies Love premiered at The Public Theatre on April 23 and closed on July 28, after receiving four extensions.
