The American premiere of Tony winner Dennis Kelly's Taking Care of Baby, a provocative drama that explores the elusive nature of truth and the depths people will go to expose it, officially opens November 19 at New York City Center—Stage II. Directed by Erica Schmidt, the MTC production, starring Margaret Colin and Reed Birney, is scheduled to run through December 8 at the off-Broadway theater.
In addition to Colin and Birney, the cast of Taking Care of Baby includes Tony nominee Amelia Campbell, Kristen Bush, Francois Battiste, Michael Crane, Ethan Phillips and Zach Shaffer.
Taking Care of Baby is a documentary-style drama centering on Donna McAuliffe (Bush), a young mother convicted of the murder of her two infant children. In a series of probing interviews, the people in the story, including Donna and her bewildered mother, Lynn (Colin), reveal how they may have harmed those they sought to protect.
The creative team for Taking Care of Baby includes scenic design by Laura Jellinek, costume design by Jessica Pabst, lighting design by David Weiner and sound design by Fitz Patton.
