Daphne Rubin-Vega and Tracie Thoms never appeared in Rent together—Rubin-Vega created the role of Mimi and Thoms was part of the closing cast as Joanne—but the ladies were happy to share a hug on opening night of Dominique Morisseau's Sunset Baby, produced by Labyrinth Theater Company. The play, which opened at the Bank Street Theatre on November 22, centers on the daughter of a black revolutionary and what happens when her estranged father returns. Rubin-Vega, a Lab company member, just ended her run as the Nurse in Classic Stage Company's Romeo & Juliet, and Thoms most recently appeared on Broadway in Stick Fly. Can't somebody come up with a project these two could do together?
